A team we don’t always think about, a team that we can’t express our excitement and cheer out loud for, BADMINTON. Yeah, that’s right! Badminton not always in the spotlight but a very well contested team for SA with success.

The team, led by head coach Ms. Jennifer Roveto, comes into the season with high expectations. After finishing 3rd in the league last year, Coach Roveto says the goal for this year is to finish in at least second place.

The team has a winning mindset going into the year. Coach Roveto had this to say, “The girls have already expressed how important winning is to them now, especially after last year’s 3rd place finish. They have very high goals for themselves and this year their ultimate goal is to beat St. John the Baptist and Our Lady of Mercy Academy at least once each.” Both of these school will be the teams biggest challenges on their way to trying to win leagues.

The coach are very confident in the depth of the team. Starting with the number one player, all the way to the exhibition players. The three captains on the team are Seniors Ryann Tracy and  Morena DeVito, and Junior Emma Benes. Leading in doubles so far this year Paige Pagano and Emma Benes, the Varsity 2nd Doubles Team, have been very impressive, not losing a set yet.

Lastly, here’s what coach had to say about what it would take to capture a championship, “Our team is working on staying confident and positive throughout the whole season. It’s important that the girls don’t get down on themselves, if they fall behind and they have to truly believe that they can win. Attitude and mindset are huge components to Badminton.”

The next home games will be April 16th vs. Mary Louis Academy and April 30th Sacred Heart Academy both at 4:15pm.

The team is already off to a roaring start, winning their first 5 games. It should be an exciting year for the Varsity Girls Badminton Team!
