Back to back wins over the holiday weekend brought the Friars to 5-0. Sunday night’s game resulted in a 13-2 victory over West Islip for goaltender Dominik Feiler and the Friars. Monday night’s goalies, Dominik Feiler, Nick Tempone, and Jordan Valcich combined for a thirteen-save shutout in the 6-0 win over Ward Melville.
The Friars’ short bench flourished against West Islip as seven different skaters found the back of the net. Senior forward, Ryan Leon, was able to net his first three goals of the season for the hat trick. Junior Tommy Azzarti notched the hat trick as well, adding two assists for a five-point campaign.
Juniors Anthony Cutalo and Nicholas Busa also had strong nights as Cutalo added two goals and two assists to his season totals, and Busa added two goals and an assist. Senior Vito Sacino also scored his first of the season.
Senior captain, Cormac Terry, played a very strong game with two assists and six forced turnovers. Will Bisogno, Zack Sirel, Christian Buttacavoli, and Brody O’Doherty also contributed to the score sheet.
The Friars were the favorites to win and they truly proved it. West Islips’ leading scorer Ciaran Pollard was held out for half of the game due to an equipment violation and even when he skated the Friars kept him on lockdown. Saint Anthony’s played a dominant game and deserved the win.
The Friars take the win and come right back Monday night to face off against Ward Melville. Most teams struggle on the second half of a back to back, but the Friars flourished. All three goaltenders combined for the win and the shutout. Junior Zack Sirel shone, netting a hatrick and now leads the team with seven goals through five games.
Junior Mauricio Carrasco Jr. played a great game and picked up his first two points of the season with two assists. Azzarti added another goal and assist to the night, increasing his season tallies. Buttacavoli had a great moment scoring his first varsity goal with assists coming from Bisogno and O’Doherty.
Ward Melville put up a good fight given their record (1-4) and the strength of their roster but the Friars prevailed. The first period Ward Melville was all over the Friars but from the second period on, Saint Anthony’s dominated. Goaltenders Feiler and Tempone only faced four shots total after Valcich saved the nine he faced in the first period.
The Friars had a thrilling two games this holiday weekend and the captains led the way. Two strong performances came from captain Terry as he locked down the blue line. Alternate captains, Sirel and Azzarti, picked up a combined eleven points and seven goals. Busa, Leon, and Cutalo also contributed, combining for seven goals and eleven points as well.
