Another win for the Friars as they stay undefeated. A rematch against the Kings Park/Commack Knights ended in a 5-3 victory for Saint Anthony’s. Jordan Valcich secured his fourth win of the season saving 24 of 27. Zack Sirel had another standout game with two goals and an assist.

The Friars struck quickly on their first power play on a one timer from Anthony Cutalo. The Friars’ power play has been lethal this year operating at over 70%. Captain Cormac Terry added his eleventh assist in eleven games and was shutting down KPC all game.

The Friars erupted in the second period scoring three goals asserting their dominance. First, Tommy Azzariti put one in the back of the net with a nice feed coming from Zack Sirel. KPC forward Jack Salva cut the lead to one as he danced through the Friars defense, short-handed, and scored on Valcich. Zack Sirel and Christian Buttacavoli both scored after Salva to give Saint Ants’ the 4-1 lead.

In the third period, play was even till a KPC forward turned the puck over directly in front of the net and Zack Sirel put home his second of the night and his team leading thirteenth of the season. Kings Park put up a comeback in the final three minutes as Brian Prange and Jack Salva scored, putting the Friars on their toes late.

Saint Anthony’s held on for the 5-3 win and continues to remain perfect. Junior forward and assistant captain Zack Sirel was asked what the mindset was going into the third period with a large lead stating, “We didn’t want to take our feet off the brakes, lay on the pressure and keep competing. We made some mistakes towards the end but were able to recover and secure the win.” Perfectly describing what it took for the Friars to win. Saint Anthony’s takes on the Sachem Hockey Club next as they look to stay undefeated.
