On Tuesday, October 2nd, St. Anthony’s Boys Varsity Soccer took on rival Chaminade. St. Anthony’s(7-2) looked to advance to 6-0 in their conference and to 8-2 overall.
The Friars did just that defeating the Chaminade Flyers 2-1.
The Flyers were the ones who took the lead first on a Brendan Slattery goal. That would be all Chaminade would be able to get the whole game. In large part to Senior Friars goalie Anthony Badalamenti who had 5 saves and saved a penalty kick.
Chaminade shut out the Friars the whole first half and had a 1-0 lead at halftime.
It was a completely different game in the second half. Jevon Burke got the Friars on the board with a goal into the top corner from a really tight angle. The goal was assisted by Chad Meyers. Late in the second half, with the score tied at 1, Jake Donahue scored on a beautiful cross from Ben Kessler. This gave the Friars the lead and the score would remain as the Friars went on to win 2-1.
Senior right back Will Greco had this to say about the win, “Our ability to come together as a team when we were down was key. Even though we did not play poorly in the first half, being down 1-0 we knew we had to step it up in the second half if we wanted to get a result. That’s exactly what we did. I think we did a good job as a defense limiting their chances in the second half and offensively we created plenty of scoring opportunities and we were able to capitalize on two of them.”
Saint Anthony’s will be heading into playoffs come Oct 30th. Come out and Support your team.
